On this date back in 2019, a sleeping giant was awakened.
I’ll never forget hearing Whiskey Myers’ 2011 song “Ballad of a Southern Man” for the first time and thinking to myself:
“Wow, these guys are gonna be a household name before we know it.”
Their deep cutting lyrics and southern rock sound that was virtually non-existent in the early 2010s was so refreshing to the ear. I mean, the only way you’re not a Whiskey Myers fan is if you haven’t heard them yet.
Little did the group know, that eight years later, they would be on top of the music world with their 2019 self-titled, self-produced album… Whiskey Myers.
The album debuted at No. 1 on both the Country and Americana/Folk sales charts, at No. 2 on the Rock chart and No. 6 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.
The album beat out Jon Pardi’s Heartache Medication and Sturgill Simpson’s Sound & Fury, two great albums in their own right.
With songs like “Bury My Bones,” “Rolling Stone,” “Houston County Sky,” “Kentucky Gold,” and several others (there’s not a bad song on this project), Whiskey Myers officially became a household name.
