Sturgill Simpson Plays “Shamrock” At Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Fest & I Think We Need A “Dood & Juanita” Tour

Sturgill Simpson IS BACK.

Well, playing some live music at least…

The man announced after dropping his fifth full album, The Ballad of Dood & Juanita, that he’s officially done with his solo career.

As sad as that was to hear, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s back out playing shows for the first time (at least that we know of) since his tour with Tyler Childers got cancelled back in 2020 due to the pandemic.

He played a show this past Friday at Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival, bringing us a few live performances from the new The Ballad Of Dood & Juanita album.

We already saw “Juanita,” but this video is of him and his band playing “Shamrock,” and then transitioning into The Storm, originally off of his 2013 High Top Mountain album, as well as on Cuttin’ Grass Vol. 1.

Sierra Hull shredding the mando, Stuart Duncan doin’ work on that fiddle… what can I say, you can’t beat it with a stick.

What we need is a “Dood & Juanita” Tour where Stu and company open the show with the entire “Dood & Juanita” set. Stu and the Hillbilly Avengers play the entire thing from front to back, a quick intermission, and then another hour or two of Stugrass hits.

G0 ahead and try to tell me that wouldn’t be incredible.
