Missing The Turnpike Troubadours? Watch ‘Em Play “Good Lord Lorrie” In Austin, Texas Back In 2014

Talk about a blast from the past.

If you miss the Turnpike Troubadours as much as I do (and I’m fairly certain that you do), then I have just the video you need to see to get you through the rest of your week.

It’s from back in 2014 at the Gibson Texas Showroom and it’s one of the best live performances of this song I’ve seen them do. The harmonica work from Evan, the immaculate fiddle playing by Kyle Nix… just phenomenal.

Of course, the track is from their incredible 2012 record Goodbye Normal Street and remains a fan-favorite to this day. It’s more than your average country music heartbreak song, because it includes A+ storytelling and lines like the iconic opening verse:

“Lorrie lit a cigarette and smiled
And waved the smoke out of her face
With her black hair brown from the summer sun
Green eyes looked around the place
And she told me that she loved me
And I grinned and grabbed her hand and said, “I know”
Let’s get from here
Now darling if we’re going
Let’s go on and go”

Let’s be honest, they’re not even really song lyrics— they’re lines of poetry set to music.

Though we’re all very well-aware at this point that the band is on an indefinite hiatus, this video here just reminds me how excited I am for their (hopefully) eventual return.

Check them out playing one of their signature songs seven years ago and bask in the glory of some damn good country music:
