Miranda Lambert is having a tough week.

Just a couple of days ago, she had to say goodbye to her dog of almost 14 years, Jessi.

In the tribute to Jessi she posted on Instagram, Miranda told the story of how she had rescued Jessi on the side of the road during a sleet storm in Oklahoma.

Miranda and her mom were driving around in her truck listening to Jessi Colter’s record, I Am Jessi Colter, when they found two pups abandoned and in need of a home (they also rescued her late dog Waylon).

That’s where she got the inspiration for her sweet dog’s name and the rest is history:

Last night, Miranda played her first show since having to say goodbye to her beloved pet. Of course, as many of us know all too well, it’s extremely hard to let go of any pet that’s been though so much life with you.

And, as Miranda’s known to do on occasion, she broke down singing her massive #1 hit “The House That Built Me” at the Guthrie Center festival in Iowa.

It’s a song that’s very personal to Miranda, and with such a huge loss this week, it’s not hard to imagine that her emotions got the best of her as she tried to get through her performance as best she could.

Luckily, the crowd knew every single word and took over for her as she wiped away tears. Props to Miranda for getting on stage and giving it her all even with such a shitty week behind her.

Yes, believe it or not, she really is human (sometimes I forget that, too).

But at the end of the day, this is why live music is so special… you can’t get these kind of raw, emotional moments anywhere else.
