You ever do something (illegal or not) and know immediately that you royally fucked up?

We’re talking a BIG mistake…

I imagine that’s what happened to the guy that tried to break into heavyweight UFC fighter Derrick Lewis’ car today.

Did he know it was Lewis’ car? Probably not. Does he wish that he had? Absolutely.

But he found that out the hard way as the last thing he saw before police arrived was the fist of 6 foot, three inch, 265 pound professional MMA fighter coming at him.

According to MMAfighting.com, Lewis was leaving the gym when he came upon the man trying to break into his car with a screwdriver. He stopped the would-be car thief with a single punch, and then left him right there on the ground until the police came.

Police gave a hilarious description of the events that transpired:

“Mr. Lewis says he went over to the suspect, struck him, placed him onto the ground until the police arrived. That’s the nicest way to put it.”

He shared the story to Instagram (which is now private):

“Mofo pick right/wrong car to break into… HE OK.”

The earned himself a trip to the hospital, followed by a one way trip to jail.

Lewis, who is known for his funny post-fight interviews, should be first in line for a shot at the UFC Heavyweight title. A fight with current champ Francis Ngannou is expected to be coming soon.

Here’s the video of the aftermath:
