Coach got canned.
Earlier this week, a video of two youth football players went viral, and with the kind of hit the ball carrier laid on the other kid, it’s not hard to see why.
He lit him up like the Fourth of July.
Naturally the video sparked a ton outrage, and for good reason, but as it turns out, coach was fired last year.
According to USA Today, the Wesley Chapel Weddington Athletic Association, a youth sports organization in Charlotte, North Carolina, launched an investigation as soon as it happened back in September:
“This drill occurred back in September 2020 on a team with a first year coach in the program.
This was addressed immediately with the coach when it happened as this was deemed not an acceptable drill for this age group or the experience level of these players.
Subsequent to the coach being removed from his position, there were no other incidents or issues with this team during the remainder of the season.”
Way to be ahead of the game (no pun intended).
Former NFL defensive lineman and NFL media personality Mike Golic weighed in on the video, placing the blame on poor coaching, rather than age alone.
As did many other former players like Dan Orlovsky, Louis Riddick, Channing Crowder and Shawn Merriman.
