Cody Johnson Teams Up With Willie Nelson For Flawless Rendition Of “Sad Songs And Waltzes”

What. A. Song.

Out of all of the songs in Willie Nelson’s epic catalog, and there’s a lot of them, “Sad Songs And Waltzes” is easily one of my favorites.

A cut from Willie’s 1973 Shotgun Willie album, it was later recorded by the great Keith Whitey in 1982 for his album of the same name (which was released posthumously in 2000).

And today, Cody Johnson has teamed up with Willie himself to release a phenomenal version of his own.

The lead track from his upcoming double album Humanit’s the first taste of the 18-track project on the way from CoJo. And after “Sad Songs & Waltzes,” we’re going to get two more songs every month until the full album drops in October.

It just doesn’t get much better than CoJo and Willie… two of Texas’ finest.

Cody recent stopped by the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast where he revealed the full plans for his upcoming double album, HUMAN, discussed his search for ’90s country songs, his upcoming ‘Dear Rodeo’ documentary, why he will always support veterans and first responders, maintaining creative control after his record deal, authenticity and not chasing trends, the “sellout” conversation, getting into the cologne game, ropin’ and ridin’, meeting your heroes, hangover cures, and more.

The podcast is available everywhere. Download the podcast on Apple Podcasts by searching “Whiskey Riff Raff” or click here.

We’re also available on Spotify and wherever else you can listen to podcasts.

Cheers, y’all.
