American Aquarium & Kaitlin Butts Cover John Prine’s “In Spite Of Ourselves”

Been on a BIG American Aquarium kick here lately.

Of course, they just released what may be my favorite album of the year so far with their ’90s country cover album, Slappers, Bangers & Certified Twangers, Vol. One.

I mean, covers of “John Deere Green,” “She’s In Love With the Boy” and “Heads Carolina, Tails California?” Come ON, that’s the good shit right there.

And the band also announced that there will, of course, be a volume two coming out at some point.

Well if you’re itching for some more ’90s country covers from American Aquarium while you wait for the next volume, we’ve got a good one here for you.

The band recently shared a video of themselves covering John Prine and Iris DeMent’s 1999 “In Spite of Ourselves” alongside the super-talented Kaitlin Butts at the Mile 0 Fest down in Key West, which took place back at the end of April.

And I agree, I can’t stop smiling watching this one either.

So will we see this John Prine classic included on Slappers, Bangers & Certified Twangers, Vol. Two? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Definitely wouldn’t be mad about it though.
