Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt Join Forces To Sing Country Gospel Classic, “The Sweetest Gift,” Back In 1976

Talk about a hidden gem.

Let’s spin it back to the late ’70s real quick, where three iconic female country musicians met up to sing a tenderhearted rendition of the classic country gospel tune:

“The Sweetest Gift”

A song dating back to the 40s, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt joined forces for the song on an episode of the Dolly around 1976. Ronstadt and Harris also recorded the song for Ronstadt’s 1975 album Prisoner in Disguise.

Dolly was only about 30-years-old at the time, but then you throw in the legendary Emmylou Harris, and one of the most diverse female vocalists ever, Linda Ronstadt, and you get one hell of a mashup.

Of course, the trio would go on record a collaborative album, titled Trio, in 1987, as well as Trio II in 1999.

But damn, I wish they still had shows like this.

I’m not talking about American Idol or The Voice, but a classic variety show. Back in the day we had Dolly, Johnny Cash’s show, Glen Campbell, and more.

Man, talk about simpler times.

They also did “Bury Me Beneath The Willow”
