20-Year-Old ‘The Voice’ Contestant Impresses Judges With Tim McGraw’s “If You’re Reading This”

A four-chair turner…

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I’m not a fan of shows like The Voice or American Idol. I just don’t think they’re a great way to build a strong following and/or a career in country music. A few have made it, but most, even some of the winners, never really wind up doing much else after the show ends.

However lately, we’ve actually seen some promising young talent.

20-year-old Avery Roberson from North Carolina, wowed the judges with a cover of Tim McGraw’s 2007 hit, “If You’re Reading This,” the gut wrenching story of a solider killed in action.

The performance garnered a four-chair turn from the judges who were all clawing to get Roberson on their team, but ultimately, Blake Shelton was the obvious choice. As he pointed out, he was was the only judge who even knew who sings “If You’re Reading This.”

Hard to argue with that.
