On This Date: Brooks & Dunn Release Timeless Classic, “Neon Moon,” In 1992

Man, I wish I was born a decade earlier.

On this date, way back in 1992, Brooks & Dunn released their third-ever single, the timeless classic, “Neon Moon.”

Written solely by Ronnie Runn, “Neon Moon” was a track from their 1991 debut album, Brand New Man, which featured a number of songs that would light up any honky-tonk, even today. Songs like “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” “My Next Broken Heart,” the title track and more.

“Neon Moon” helped blaze a trail for the legendary country duo in the music industry, as the song became their third straight number-one single on the country charts, peaking in both the United States and Canada. Right out of the gate, they topped the charts with their first four singles. This was also their first single that didn’t come with a music video (bummer).

The team of Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn went on to RULE the 90’s, and you can still hear this song played on many country music stations today. Hell, people are even making Tik Toks with “Neon Moon” it.

Also, I gotta say this album cover for Brand New Man is incredible. Kix in the cowboy hat and the leather jacket, and Ronnie with the aviators and blazer… it doesn’t get more badass than that. The ’90s man… what a time to be alive.

Of course, the duo revisited the tune with Kacey Musgraves on their 2019 collaborative album, Reboot.
