JJ Watt Parts Ways With Houston Texans, Releases “Thank You” Video To The Fans

The end of an era in Houston.

It was a matter of time, but the Houston Texans have officially released the cornerstone of their franchise, JJ Watt.

Watt spoke directly with the McNair family, asking to be released from the final year of his contract. His request was granted and he will become a free agent.

The 3-time Defensive Player of the Year has struggled to stay healthy recently, playing a total of 16 games in 2016, 2017, and 2019. However, he did play a full season this past year, as well as in the 2018 season.

The Wisconsin native has become an honorary Texan over the years, constantly going above and beyond off the field as well. He raised a TON of money during Hurricane Harvey, he’s donated large sums to Houston-area food banks during the pandemic, and he’s donated the proceeds from his shoes to help veterans… he’s an all-around class act.

Revealing the news himself, JJ took to social media to thank the fans, and the City of Houston, in this new video.
