In light of the recent Morgan Wallen news, which you’ve undoubtedly heard by now, other country music stars have taken to social media to weigh in on the matter.
And while Morgan has since been removed from over 400 Cumulus radio stations, Kelsea Ballerini and Maren Morris pointed out the glaring double standard between men and women in country music. And there’s more than a few of them…
Simply put… if a woman pulled the kind of shit that Morgan Wallen does, they’d be out on their ass in a heartbeat.
the truth is the truth. https://t.co/HocuKJraWa

Maren Morris agreed:
yup. we’d be dropped, endorsements lost, social pariahs to music row…

Of course the Dixie Chicks immediately come to mind as well, who were blackballed from country radio in 2003 after they were critical of President Bush.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to what is always comes down to… money. If somebody is making A LOT of money off of you, it’s going to take A LOT for them to fire you. It’s all about the “almighty dollar,” as George Strait and Alan Jackson put it in “Murder On Music Row.”
Granted, the full extent of the repercussions remains to be seen, but at this time yesterday, Morgan was the biggest thing in country music…
It actually IS representative of our town because this isn’t his first “scuffle” and he just demolished a huge streaming record last month regardless. We all know it wasn’t his first time using that word. We keep them rich and protected at all costs with no recourse.
