VIDEO: Randy Travis Performs “Heroes & Friends” At The 1993 Pro Bowl

Make football country again.

Not since Shania Twain in 2003 have we had a country music act perform the Super Bowl Halftime Show, although Eric Church will be doing the national anthem this year, alongside Jazmine Sullivan.

But dammit, I want some country. After the Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake boob incident, the NFL had been pretty keen on the classic rock for a number of years, but have reverted back to pop artists in recent years. Where’s the country? Get Carrie Underwood. Get Eric Church. Get George Strait… anybody?

All that being said, let’s take it all the way back to 1993, not for the Super Bowl, but for the Pro Bowl. Rocking a Hawaiian lei and joined by the Pro Bowl cheerleaders, Randy Travis performed his 1991 hit single, “Heroes & Friends” during the Pro Bowl halftime show.

With COVID still going on, the traditional Pro Bowl won’t be played today (it’s always the Sunday before the Super Bowl) however, current and former NFL stars and celebrities are set to compete in the virtual EA Madden Pro Bowl 21 instead.

Representing the AFC will be Deshaun Watson, Derrick Henry, Keyshawn Johnson and Snoop Dogg. For the NFC it will be Kyler Murray, Jamal Adams, Marshawn Lynch, and Bubba Wallace.
