The Flaming Lips Hold “Space Bubble” Concert And The Future Of Live Music Is HERE

A crowd of people

Where the hell was this last year?

The Flaming Lips recently performed to socially-distanced show in Oklahoma, and rather than keeping fans physically distant, they put them in their own inflatable bubble. Frontman Wayne Coyne says the measure is “safer than going to the grocery store.”

“We collect everybody and then we take them row by row to their bubbles. Once you’re in the bubble you can do whatever the fuck you want, and that’s the beauty of it. That’s what we spent most of the time figuring out. The music part of it, we got that shit down.”

Each bubble can hold up to three people (bummer for the third wheel), and the Oklahoma City venue Criterion, where the back to back shows were held, can fit up to 100 bubbles. The Flaming Lips used the concept to shoot a music video late last year, however this was the first public concert for the bubbles.

I mean, what are we waiting for? Let’s get a government stimmy for the bubble makers going and get back to some live music. Although, if you thought fights at country concerts were bad before, just wait until it turns into a bubble suit mosh pit.

Actually, that might be fun…

The future is here…
