Eric Church’s “Chevy Van” Is One Of The Most Underappreciated Covers In Country Music

If there is such a thing as a bad Eric Church cover, I haven’t found it yet.

In fact, quite the opposite.

Back in 2011, Eric recorded phenomenal cover of fellow North Carolina native Sammy Johns’ “Chevy Van” for his Caldwell County EP. The song was originally released in 1973, however it was re-released in 1975, where it climbed to number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The track has been covered countless times by other artists, including Waylon Jennings on his 1987 album Hangin’ Tough, as well as Sammy Kershaw in 1996.

Eric later released a live version on his 61 Days In Church album. The cover was recorded live from his Jacksonville, Florida, show on May 5th, 2017.

And because I’m desperate for live music, here’s Eric performing it live in Boston during his epic Double Down Tour in 2019.
