Fell down the ol’ YouTube rabbit hole this afternoon…

Not really sure what I was looking for, or how I wound up here, but Kid Rock and Kenny Chesney singing Waylon Jennings? If you had asked me beforehand, I probably would’ve have doubted that a cover of “Luckenbach, Texas” would have ever existed, but lo and behold, here we are.

Apparently recorded in Detroit at 4 in the morning, it was released way back in 2003 for Waylon Jennings tribute album titled, I’ve Always Been Crazy: A Tribute To Waylon Jennings.

Featuring this performance from Kenny and Kid Rock, along with other appearances from Travis Tritt, Brooks & Dunn, Dwight Yoakam, Jessi Colter, Hank Williams Jr. and more, the album features tribute performance of Waylon tunes like “Lonesome, On’ry And Mean,” “Waymore’s Blues,” “I Ain’t Living Long Like This,” and more.

Written by Chips Moman and Bobby Emmons, “Luckenbach, Texas” was released in 1977 as the lead single from his Ol’ Waylon album.

Kenny and Bob singing Waylon… it’s really something.
