Big & Rich (John Rich) Compared Sam Hunt To Johnny Cash…JOHNNY CASH…I AM NOT JOKING

Well this one is sure to make your brain melt and drip out of your ears.

Oh, by the way, you didn’t misread that title either. Look if you love “pop” country only, or pop music in general, you might really be into Sam Hunt’s music. I think many fans of music looked at Hunt for quite a while wondering, “will he ever try to make a real country album?”

To this point, the answer has clearly been no, with a primary focus on radio hits.

In an interview back in 2017, Big & Rich praised Sam Hunt for being a transcendent artist like that of the iconic Johnny Cash. Yes, the one and only Man in Black.

For Sam, that’s one hell of a compliment (ya think?). For fans of real country music, that means war.

John Rich at about the 4:30 mark:

“I think a lot of things about your style mimic a lot of the old school great guys and I don’t think a lot of people would make this comparison, but I do…”

“If you think about Johnny Cash for instance, you don’t sound like Johnny Cash, but Johnny Cash was incorporating rock and roll and gospel into what he called my brand of country music…”

A stretch, John? I’m thinking you could have pulled a few more names out of the hat to compare Hunt to (in the pop world), but it’s not Johnny.

Here’s the clip.
