On This Date: Miranda Lambert Releases Gut-Wrenching “Over You,” Written For Blake Shelton’s Late Brother

What a gut-punch of a song.

Released in nine years ago today, it was the second single from Miranda’s Four The Record.

Written by Miranda Lambert and husband at the time, Blake Shelton, it was a response to the passing of Blake’s older brother. He passed away in a car accident when Blake was a teenager. However, Blake couldn’t bring himself to sing it, so Miranda recorded it, and the rest is history.

It went on to win Song of the Year at both the CMA and the ACM awards.

Blake performs it live sometimes, however this duet at a Salute The Troops even was one of the more powerful performances.

Blake also performed it at a benefit concert for his late friend Troy Gentry.
