Back in 2019, at this little venue called the Bridgestone Area, a handful of artists came together to honor the country music legend known as Willie Nelson.

And not just anybody, we’re talking hitters like George Strait, Bobby Bare, Kris Kristofferson, Jamey Johnson, Eric Church, Lee Ann Womack, Margo Price, Vince Gill, Jimmy Buffett, Steve Earle & more.

Performing Willie hits from over the years, and teaming up with Willie himself, that night dubbed: Willie Nelson American Outlaw, also featured the first ever duet between George Strait and Willie Nelson.

And it also featured a rip roarin’ cover of “Whiskey River” from the great Chris Stapleton.

Written and recorded by Johnny Bush in 1972, it was recorded by Willie the following year for his Shotgun Willie record. A live version was later released as a single for Willie in 1978.
