Dad Belts Out National Anthem At High School Basketball Game After Sound System Malfunctions… Brings Entire Gym To Tears

Leave it to dad to save the day.

At an Ohio high school basketball game between Waverly and Portsmouth West last week, everybody was standing and waiting for the national anthem to play over the speakers. But it didn’t.

No problem though. When this dad saw that the sound system was experiencing technical difficulties, he decided to do what all dads do and just take matters into his own hands.

According to Trenton Brown, whose son plays for Waverly, when he noticed that the announcer was getting frustrated over the malfunctioning sound system, his wife began prodding him to fill the awkward silence.

“I looked over at the announcer and the music didn’t play and didn’t play and I looked over and he was getting a little frustrated. My wife gave me a little nudge and said “Sing” and I said, “All right.'”

And did he ever. Brown belted out the “Star Spangled Banner” like nobody’s business. Why did they not ask this guy to sing it from the beginning? With a voice like that you don’t need some pre-recorded performance.

The best part of the video, which was captured and posted to Facebook by another parent, isn’t even Brown’s performance though. It’s the end of the song, when the dad just sits down and starts eating his popcorn like nothing happened. Like he didn’t just knock the socks off of every other parent in the gym.

And according to the parent who captured the performance, he nearly brought the entire room to tears.

“He brought about everyone in the gym to tears when he saved the day by standing up in the crowd and singing the anthem.”

All in a day’s work for ol’ dad.
