Kacey Musgraves Yodels Like A Champ On 2003 Album ‘Wanted: One Good Cowboy’

Taking it all the way back to 2003, before the Grammys and the hit records, before the fame and the notoriety… just a a young Texas girl chasing a dream… and yodeling.

At only 14 years old, Kacey Musgraves recorded an album titled Wanted: One Good Cowboy, and if you’re new to the Kacey Musgraves world, just wait until you hear this.

With a great deal of songs referencing the Lone Star State and her love for where she is from, this entire album is almost an ode to the great state of Texas. She covered a collection of classics, including Jimmie Rodgers “Peach Pickin’ Time in Georgia” and a beloved American folk song, “Wayfaring Stranger.”

You even get to hear her yodel in tracks like “When It’s Peach Pickin’ Time in Georgia,” “If I Could Only Learn to Yodel,” “Yodeler’s Lament,” and a handful of other songs. This might come as a surprise to fans of Golden Hour, who may not be familiar with much of her older material, but even if you’ve been an OG Kacey Musgraves fan, it’s bound to drop your jaw a bit.

The album also features a song titled “The Life Of An Old Cowhand” that was co-written by Kacey and Miranda Lambert, and Miranda also sings backup vocals on the tune, as well as on “Wayfaring Stranger.”

Teaming up with Miranda Lambert, Kacey’s originals truly showed off her Texas country roots on this album, and in retrospect, it might have foreshadowed her 2015 album, Pageant Material. Her song “Are You Sure” featuring Willie Nelson is the perfect representation of a full circle moment for an inspired Texan.
