Dollyisms 101: Life Lessons From The School Of Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton sitting at a table

The school of Dolly Parton is a place I want to go learn.

She’s an icon in country music, there’s no doubt about that, but she’s also as funny as any comedian I’ve ever heard. She’s full of wisdom and wit, and never runs short on one-liners that stick.

And because I watch every interview she does, as they’re pure entertainment, I’ve compiled a list of the best Dolly-isms out there that we should all be living by.

10. “My weakness has always been food and men- in that order.”

9. “I’m not going to limit myself just because people won’t accept the fact that I can do something else.”

8. “Don’t judge me by the cover ‘cause I’m a real good book.”

7. “Wildflowers don’t care where they grow.”

6. “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”

5. “Yeah, I flirt. I’m not blind, and I’m not dead!”

4. “It costs a lot of money to look this cheap.”

3. “People always say, ‘But you always look so happy!’ Well, that’s botox! Nobody’s happy all the time. But I work hard at it.”

2. “I thought she was the prettiest thing I’d ever seen. Big yellow hair, lipstick, red nails… and everybody said ‘Oh, she ain’t nothin’ but trash’. And I thought, well, that’s what I’m gonna be when I grow up: trash!”

1. “It’s hard to be a diamond in a rhinestone world.”

And ain’t that the truth.
