At just 24-years-old, Chase Elliott is officially a NASCAR Cup Series champion. His win makes him the third youngest driver to win the title behind Jeff Gordon and Bill Rexford.

Elliott failed pre-race inspection twice prior to the race and was forced to start at the back of the grid, however he battled back to best Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin, who finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively.

Elliot also becomes the first driver since his father Bill in 1988 to win Most Popular Driver and the Championship in the same year. It also makes them only the 3rd father-son duo to win a Championship, joining Lee and Richard Petty and Ned and Dale Jarrett.

“To win and lock the championship, this is moments you can only dream of. This is a dream. I’m just hoping I don’t ever wake up.”

7-time champion Jimmie Johnson, who raced his last race today, pulled up alongside him to show him some love.
