Throwback To Alan Jackson’s First Ever TV Appearance, Covering George Jones Way Back In 1985

And a legend was born.

In 1985, Alan Jackson, who was apparently just known as “Al” back then, made an appearance on TNN’s You Can Be Star with a cover of the George Jones classic “He Stopped Loving Her Today.”

And the best part? He wasn’t even a contestant. He worked in the mail room at the network and performed a quick lead-in to a commercial break. But that was all it took to catch the attention of producer Keith Stegall, and the rest was history.

“This is the first time that Keith Stegall, Alan’s producer a couple of years later, ever saw him perform. This is also Alan’s first appearance on national television. TNN in Dec of 1985, although it would’ve aired in ’86.”

And then, nearly 30 years later, Alan would go on to perform the very same song at George Jones’ funeral in May of 2013.

Dreams do come true people.
