Flashback To Last Year’s Hamlin-Logano Brawl At Martinsville Speedway

With only one race left until the Championship, it’s going to be all on the line this afternoon at Martinsville.

But before we get to that, let’s flashback to last year’s (October 27th, 2019) fireworks between Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano.

After Hamlin ran Logano into the wall, Logano wanted a word with Hamlin after the race. The conversation appeared to be pretty civil, until Logano ended it with a shove, but then walked away. If you’ve ever been in a fight in your life, you don’t shove a guy and then expect to just walk away like nothing happened.

Long story short: Denny wasn’t having it… ding ding, let’s get ready to rumble.

After the fight, Hamlin called out Logano for trying to shove him and then run away.

“We were having a discussion, and everything was civil. And then like Joey does, he does a little push and then runs away… That’s Joey. He’s scared. He said, ‘Do you want to go?’ I said, ‘Yes, I’m here.’ And then he runs away.”

Logano, who later said he shouldn’t have shoved him, said he was frustrated that Hamlin wasn’t apologetic.

“I was frustrated about the situation obviously. I just really wanted to go over there to talk to him and get his side of the story on what happened, and he just said ‘I ran you up in the wall’ basically. It wasn’t as apologetic as I was looking for, and that probably escalated the situation too much.”

Flashforward to today, Logano’s win at Kansas has secured his spot in the finals, but Denny will be battling to secure his spot as well. Hamlin currently holds a two point lead over Brad Keselowski for the final spot above the cutline.
