Dolly Parton Brings Colbert To Tears With Moving Performance Of “Bury Me Beneath The Willow”

Dolly is gem.

She stopped by (virtually of course) an episode of A Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night and in addition to talking about her new book, Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life In Lyrics, her long marriage to Carl Dean, and her new Christmas album, she gave a moving acapella performance of “Bury Me Beneath The Willow.”

So moving that she left Stephen Colbert in tears.

“Like a lot of Americans, I’m under a lot of stress right now, Dolly. You got under my trip wire right there, that was pretty beautiful.”

And Colbert also added a bit of insight into the cathartic process of crying:

“Isn’t funny how sometimes there is nothing happier than a cry.”

If that doesn’t prove it, I don’t know what will…. America needs more Dolly.
