The music world lost a legend today.

According to TMZ, guitar icon and Van Halen founding member, Eddie Van Halen, has passed away after losing a battle to throat cancer. He was 65.

He died at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica with his wife, Janie by his side, along with his son, Wolfgang, Alex, his brother and bandmate.

His son Wolfgang also shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram.

“I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop.”

Eddie’s impact on the guitar players, both in the country music and across all genres of music, can not be understated. He was, and will always be, an absolute icon.

A few years back, Brad Paisley shredded “Hot For Teacher” at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, California.

RIP Eddie.
