Cody Jinks Delivers Acoustic Cover Of Waylon Jennings’ “I Ain’t Livin’ Long Like This”

With the ACM Awards tomorrow, I was digging into some great awards show moments last night and of course, you can’t talk about awards show without mentioning the 1975 CMA Awards.

So while I was writing about Waylon not giving a fuck and Charlie Rich lighting awards on fire, the Sequestered Songwriters were tipping their caps to the music of Waylon with another virtual concert.

If you’re not familiar, Sequestered Songwriters is a weekly guitar pull featuring some of the best artists primarily in the Texas/Red Dirt country scene and each week, they pick one artist to collectively cover. They’ve dedicated sessions to Willie Nelson, George Strait, Dolly Parton and more, but last night, the performances were dedicated to the music of Waylon Jennings.

Last night’s show featured performances from Jamie Lin Wilson, Cody Canada, Adam Hood, Ward Davis, Courtney Patton, Channing Wilson, Kendell Marvel, Cody Jinks and more.

And when it came time for Cody to perform, he hit the viewers with a knockout acoustic version of the 1979 Waylon hit, “I Ain’t Living Long Like This.”

The song was originally written by Rodney Crowell and recorded by Gary Stewart on his 1977, and then, Emmylou Harris recorded her version in 1978, as did Crowell on his debut album, before Waylon released his the following year. It’s also been recorded by Brooks and Dunn, Justin Moore, Chris Janson and more.
