Texas Longhorns Walk On Earns Scholarship, Dad Fights Back The Tears Delivering The News

Jett Bush… if that isn’t the most Texas football name I’ve ever heard, I don’t know what is…

Jett is a sophomore walk-on linebacker at the University of Texas, who had impressed head coach Tom Herman enough in his freshman year to earn a scholarship this season. And if you’ve ever seen a scholarship video before, you know how emotional it can get… I’m saying grab the Kleenex.

“I know parents always get nervous when the head coach calls, but this is a good one,” Herman told Mark and Amy Bush. “We’re gonna put Jett on scholarship.”

And rather than announcing it at practice or during a team meeting, coach Herman had Jett’s own father call into the team meeting and give his son the news. Needless to say, dad was a mess, Jett was bawling and the team went bonkers.

Shortly thereafter, an emotional Jett addressed the rest of the team:

“I can’t thank y’all enough for always supporting me and always helping me out every day. You know, I’ve been thinking about this, it’s what will help motivate me every day, every practice. But, seriously, having y’all as my teammates, having y’all as my family, I wouldn’t want anybody else. Love y’all. Hook ‘em.”

If you’re up for a good cry today, this will do the trick.
