Absolutely awful news in the country music community today.

According to a statement released by his label, Broken Bow Records, Blanco Brown was involved in a head-on collision last night near his home in Atlanta, Georgia. Blanco sustained significant injuries and underwent 12 hours of surgery to treat them.

He is currently recovering in the ICU.

“BBR Music Group’s beloved Blanco Brown, the artist behind 2019’s worldwide viral smash “The Git Up” and current hit “Just The Way” was involved in a head-on collision Monday night near his home in Atlanta, GA. The accomplished writer, vocalist and Grammy-nominated producer suffered significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he underwent a 12-hour surgery to address those traumas. Additional surgeries are expected as he currently rests in the ICU. Blanco, his family and his friends ask for your prayers during this time.”

Blanco Brown’s “The Git Up” exploded onto the country music scene last year as a viral country/hip hop line dance song. Along with Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” it was a cornerstone of the emerging “country trap” scene.

It went #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for 12 weeks and was also the top-selling digital Country song in the US for 13 weeks resulting in Billboard naming him as their #1 Top New Country Artist for 2019.

Label-mate Lainey Wilson was featured in a music video demonstrating the viral dance moves.

Blanco also performed “Don’t Take The Girl” with Tim McGraw last year.
