Viral Video Shows Nashville’s Lower Broadway Packed This Weekend With Almost No Masks In Sight

When it comes to wearing masks, Nashville is always in the news for the wrong reasons.

A video from Friday July 17 on Broadway has gone viral, most recently trending at the top of Reddit.

The uploaded video was titled “The reason we are screwed. Downtown Nashville, TN on a Friday night. Mask mandate in place,” and it shows the street packed, with very few people actually wearing their masks as they hang out on the sidewalks, drinking, and waiting to get into certain establishments.

If you’re confused as to what they’re waiting for, you’re not alone. Yes, the “bars” are supposed to be closed, but as WKRN points out, there is some gray area in terms of what constitutes a bar being allowed to be open:

“What is interesting about the video is that Nashville Mayor John Cooper ordered bars to close and remain closed until at least the end of the month. Bars can only operate if they make most of their income off of food, and with that at half capacity.

The majority of those out on Lower Broadway that News 2 spoke with on Saturday afternoon said they were visiting and did not even know that the city even had a mask mandate.”

The video on Reddit has almost 7,000 comments ranging from…

“Really happy that we spent three and a half months locked down here in New York City to give you folks a chance. Fucking idiots.”

to

“I just wanna go to Mars and grow potatoes. I hate people.”

Here was the scene that found its way all over the internet.
