It also happens to be the message from two best friends in upstate New York, Benjamin Smith and Marcus Ellis, who wanted to do something to help spread the love in their community. The gesture was small, but powerful:
“Black or white, relax and have a beer”
The two buddies have been hosting hang outs in the neighborhood where folks can come over (at a safe distance of course) and get to know each other over a few cold beers. And according to WETM, it’s been a HUGE success.
“I came out black, he came out white, let’s have a beer.” Ellis said. “Alcohol brings people together, and we like to smile and laugh, so it’s perfect.”
“What makes change is good people,” Smith added.
“I’m equal, just like you. I bleed, you bleed, I breathe, you breathe,” Ellis continued. “This is the proper way of doing something. unite, come together as a whole.”
Today, I had a chance to catch up with two great guys, Benjamin Smith and Marcus Ellis. These two best friends have set up camp at Smith's house in Pittsford on Jeff. Road, saying "Black or white, relax and have a beer." #ROC@News_8pic.twitter.com/N5fP2qtxWH
