Willie Nelson Releases Entire ‘Red Headed Stranger’ Set From Austin City Limits (1976)

Willie Nelson turned 87 yesterday.

And in honor of Willie’s birthday, Austin City Limits released his entire Red Headed Stranger set from 1976.

Recorded October 4, 1976, this was Willie Nelson’s 2nd appearance on Austin City Limits (his first was the pilot episode that debuted in 1975). This special performance features he and the family band performing his celebrated 1975 concept album RED HEADED STRANGER front to back. This episode was originally aired as the first episode of ACL’s second season in 1977.

The performance also features a virtual tip jar (donate here) to raise money for Farm Aid, an organization dedicated to supporting the farmers and essential food producers/workers that are feeding all of us during this difficult time.

If you love country music at all, and if even you don’t but could someday maybe find a way to love country music, you owe it to yourself to sit down and watch this. A living legend is at work.
