Remember When Garth Brooks & Billy Joel Performed “Shameless” Live At Shea Stadium?

G and B singing together at Shea Stadium… I like that.

A couple weeks ago, we shared the livestream from Cody Johnson that included a knockout performance of the Garth Brooks hit “Shameless.”

Of course, Billy Joel actually wrote and recorded “Shameless” in 1989, a few years before Garth released it, but I was pretty shocked to see how many of our readers didn’t know that. And to be honest, if it wasn’t for this performance, I probably wouldn’t have known it either.

But back in 2008, Billy Joel held a special two-night concert to commemorate the closing of Shea Stadium, the home of the New York Mets. The concert featured a number of special guests including Tony Bennett, John Mayer, Paul McCartney, and of course Garth Brooks, who made “Shameless” one of the biggest hits in a country music when he recorded it.

Baseball cap, tucked-in Mets jersey, big belt buckle… Garth Brooks in full dad mode for 55,000 screaming fans, that’s just good stuff.
