Luke Combs Should Record Keith Whitley’s “Don’t Close Your Eyes” ASAP

Remember this one?

Falling down old country music rabbit holes is pretty much part of my daily routine these days, and I have to say, I’m not mad at it.

And when it comes to covering the late great Keith Whitley, there’s some pretty great ones out there.

Of course you have the great Alison Krauss and “When You Say Nothing At All. You have Dylan Scott, who actually recorded an entire Keith Whitley project; Chris Young, who has always been one of the best at it; and then Tyler Childers, whose “Don’t Close Your Eyes” might be my favorite. Sure, it’s comically terrible, but it was supposed to be and that’s why we love it.

And then you have Luke Combs.

Luke could sing the phone book and you’d probably still love it, but you’ll love this old Keith Whitley performance even more.

If Luke wanted to go ahead and get in the studio to record a full version, I think we all would appreciate it. Make it happen Luke.
