Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up” Was Ahead Of Its Time

Jason Isbell with a serious expression

Singing in the shower is the highlight of my day… or at least, one of them.

Waking up early, throwing on the coffee, hopping in the shower and belting out tunes like I’m Chris Stapleton (I’m definitely NOT) has become a pretty regular part of the routine. Can I sing worth a shit? Nope. Does my wife hate it? Probably. Do I care? Not at all.

But anyways, “Cover Me Up” has become one of my go-to songs in the past few weeks. I absolutely love it. I’ve always loved it, but in the wake of the Coronavirus chaos, it hit me a little different this morning.

And while I was for the most part just trying to be funny, if you told me Jason wrote this song yesterday, I wouldn’t have any problem believing it. Ahead of its time indeed.

It’s makes you think though… you can hear a song a million times, know all the words, sing it over and over and over, and then the next thing you know, it suddenly reminds you of being quarantined in your home during a global pandemic. Those are the times we’re living in right now… unfortunately.

Either way, the song is fucking incredible.

Stay safe out there.

And of course, Morgan Wallen’s stellar cover as well.
