Fresh off back-to-back number 1 singles, Maren is looking to go for the trifecta with the release of “To Hell & Back,” the third single from her GIRL record.
“To Hell & Back” follows up the title track “Girl” and her most recent single “The Bones,” which just became the first single by a solo female artist since 2012 to spend multiple weeks atop the country charts.
“Two weeks at number 1. If I can be honest, I really thought the only way this could ever happen was if I was the feature artist on a guy’s song. Sitting here seeing my name at the top of a chart at all is rare, but to break this 8 year streak just feels so unbelievable. Thank you.”
“To Hell & Back” was written by Maren herself, along with frequent collaborators Jessie Jo Dillon and Laura Veltz. The trio also wrote “Rich” together.
“I feel like this song came out of a time when I was ending a relationship. I was in a really dark place and I had started growing deeper feelings for this new guy, and he was so accepting and non-judgmental of my process, of healing from that other relationship… he kinda gave me space and understood my mess and I thought that was such a pure kind of love to receive from someone where they’re like, ‘I know you’re not ready for us yet, I know you’re not ready for me yet, but I’m gonna wait until you get out of hell.'”
“You didn’t save me, You didn’t think I needed saving You didn’t change me, You didn’t think I needed changing My wings are frayed and what’s left of my halo’s black Lucky for me, your kind of heaven’s been to hell and back.”
