Drawing comparisons to the likes of Tyler Childers, the West Virginia native has proven himself to be gifted in the art storytelling, writing songs about the beauty and pain of life in Appalachia. His debut album Seneca was also featured on Whiskey Riff’s Top 40 Albums of 2019 list.
“This album will give people a really good look into what it’s like culturally in Appalachia. People have a way-off view from the outside of what we’re all about, what our priorities are and how smart we are.”
And life in Appalachia wouldn’t be complete without a song about coal. Titled “Coal Country,” Charles’ compelling new video takes you a trip through the rich history of the coal industry.
“It’s my best attempt to examine the current state of things. I tried to give a perspective of what happened and what came out of it and how I see things playing out, for better or worse.”
