Oh how the mighty have fallen…
It’s no secret, but 2019 will mark the year when we officially lost Zac Brown to whatever demonic forces he sold his soul to. Call it a midlife crisis, call it ego, call it delusions of grandeur, we can probably call it all three, but no doubt about it, Zac Brown Band’s The Owl album was a steaming pile of garbage. And Zac’s pop solo project, was worse. Much worse…
However through all of this, there may in fact be a glimmer of hope, and if nothing else, perhaps a long hard look in the mirror that resulted in Zac Brown and company actually making a good decision. It was announced awhile ago, but they will officially be sending “Leaving Love Behind” to country radio as their next single, perhaps the only song on that new album that is worth a shit.
Do I expect this to be a righting of the ship? Have they heard the cries of their fans, pleading for their return to the sounds of old? Is this the only song the label will allow them to release to country radio? Probably that last one. Either way, it’s the best of very bad situation from a band once regarded as one of the best in the business. And where they go from here is anybody’s guess…
“Leaving Love Behind” will officially impact country radio on January 13th.
But of course, since it’s still Zac Brown, the video is fucking weird…
