And with the year coming to a close, we’re digging back into all the albums that country music has produced this year looking for some of best “deep cuts.” Deep cuts are basically songs that make an album, but won’t ever be released as a single. They tend to be slower, more thoughtful, and all-around better songs than the radio-friendly singles that you’re used to hearing. Of course this isn’t an exact science, but basically we’re trying to shine a light on some of the less popular songs from country music this year. Songs you might have missed and maybe even some artists that you missed all together.
We looked at just about every country album (sorry if we forgot anybody, feel free to let us know in the comments) that was released in 2019 and we chose one “deep cut” from each. Obviously all radio singles were off limits and few we thought might be radio singles eventually, but as we all know, many of country’s best aren’t even on the radio. In that case, we just tried to pick a song that wasn’t an obvious fan favorite, but again, it’s not an exact science. Finally, in terms of a few pop country artists (looking at you Thomas Rhett)we just tried to pick the most “country” songs we could find on the album.
So without further ado, the Whiskey Riff Deep Cuts 2019 Playlist.
