Luke Bryan Wins Inaugural ACM Album Of The Decade Award For ‘Crash My Party’

During last night’s annual Opry Goes Pink benefit concert in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Luke Bryan was surprised with the first-ever ACM Album of the Decade Award for his  2013 Crash My Party record.

According to the Academy of Country Music, the award criteria is, but not limited to, the success at radio of singles released from album, album concept, commercial media, sales and streaming, artistic merit and ACM Award recognition.

So basically… the most commercially successful album that we like.

“‘Crash My Party’ was such a life changing album for us,” shared Luke from the stage of the Opry. “We didn’t know it at the time, we were just loving making music for you guys. It blew my mind the love and support we had from the fans. It’s so fun getting to do this. Thank you to my producer Jeff and my record label and management for sharing this experience with me tonight!”

At the time, Crash My Party was the largest sales debut for a country male artist since 2004. It went on to sell over four million copies with six straight #1 singles.

While I would argue that Chris Stapleton’s Traveller or Eric Church’s Chief deserve more consideration, simply for being better albums with high sales as well, you cannot deny the commercial success that Luke has had with Crash My Party. Or, pretty much any album he’s released in the past 10 years.

Should commercial success be the biggest factor for an Album of the Decade Award? Probably not, but that’s just the way country music works these days.

Either way, congrats to Luke Bryan.
