Lauren Alaina Honors Late Stepdad With Powerful New Song, “The Other Side,” On One-Year Anniversary Of His Death

Country music artists have a special way of taking their own real-life tragedies and turning them into powerful songs that we can all listen to as we grieve through our own devastating times. It’s truly one of things that gives country music a unique connection to the fans.

With Craig Morgan’s “The Father, My Son and The Holy Ghost,” and Chris Young’s “Drowning” being two of the more recent examples, the latest one comes to us from Lauren Alaina.

Lauren’s powerful new song “The Other Side” tells the story of Alaina’s final conversation with her late stepfather Sam, and some of his other thoughts in his final moments. Sam passed away one year ago today after being diagnosed with Stage IV cancer.

Along with the song, Alaina took to Instagram this morning to share a deeply emotional tribute to her “number one fan”.

He was always my champion. He was always my number one fan. Now he’s my guardian angel. I can’t believe my stepdad has been gone a year today. This is going to be an extremely hard day for my family, but I know Sam is with us and is so proud of us all. I am dancing for you tonight Sammy. I’m giving mom all the biggest hugs she deserves. We miss you. See you on The Other Side.”

People like to say things like “music is healing” all the time, but in country music right now, that phrase has never been more true.
