Laughing, crying, drinking… Irish funerals are a different breed.
However, for mourners at Irish Defence Force veteran Shay Bradley’s funeral this past weekend, it was Shay himself who got the last laugh… from beyond the grave. Once Shay’s body was lowered into the grave, teary-eyed friends and family burst into laughter when a pre-recorded message from Shay started playing from the casket.
Where the fuck am I? Let me out, let me out. It’s fucking dark in here. Is that the priest I can hear. This is Shay I’m in the box. No in fucking front of you. I’m dead.”
He then burst into song, leaving everybody with his rendition of Neil Diamond’s “Hello Again.”
According to the Irish Mirror, Shay passed away on October 8th after a long battle with an unknown illness. His daughter, Andrea posted the video to her social media, saying: “My dad’s dying wish, always the pranksters, you got them good Poppabear and gave us all a laugh just when we needed it! What a man, to make us all laugh when we were incredibly sad. He was some man for one man. I will love you forever.”
RIP Shay, you sound like you were one helluva lad.
