Taco Bell giveth, and they taketh away.

Over the weekend, Taco Bell announced the troubling news that they would be condensing their menu by removing nine, YES NINE, items including the Doritos Locos Tacos, the Double Decker Taco, the Grilled Stuft Burrito, and more.

But, before we could even finish our grieving, Taco Bell has hit us with even more news. And this time, it’s good news.

Starting next week, Taco Bell will be launching their new Toasted Cheddar Chalupa nationwide. Featuring aged cheddar cheese baked right into the chalupa shell, the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa is filled with your choice of seasoned beef, chicken or steak, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, grated cheddar cheese, and sour cream, all of which should run you about $2.49. It will also be available as part of their $5 Box as well.

“At Taco Bell, we get excited by the ‘what if’s’ we can dream up and bring to life for our fans – and the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa is an example of just that,” said Liz Matthews, Chief Food Innovation Officer at Taco Bell Corp. “We know cheese makes everything better, and baking aged cheddar into the shell of an already iconic product is a game changer our fans will love.”

The new creation will also be available in ArubaCanadaChileCosta RicaDominican RepublicEl SalvadorGuatemalaPanama and Puerto Rico, so you happen to find yourself in any of those countries and feel like eating Taco Bell instead of the far superior local fare, that’s always an option. I mean, just imagine some Central American fisherman pulling in his catch for the day and whipping up some fresh ceviche while you’re sipping something tall and strong on the beach. And, then passing that up and eating Taco Bell instead… you should be locked up.

BUT… when you’re blacked out at 2am here in America, the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa is definitely the way to go.
