After waiting for what felt like an eternity, we finally have confirmation that Sturgill Simpson will be release a new album… a psychedelic rock album made in collaboration with a Japanese anime film of the same name.

Wait, what?

We went in without any preconceived notions and came out with a really sleazy, steamy rock n roll record. It’s definitely my most psychedelic. And also my heaviest. I had this idea that it’d be really cool to animate some of these songs, and we ended up with a futuristic, dystopian, post-apocalyptic, samurai film.”

While I’m always ecstatic to hear what Sturgill Simpson is working on, many other fans are pissed that Sturgill has abandoned the country genre to pursue his own passions, or you know, making whatever the fuck kind of music he wants. Here’s a few recent comments:

“Please turn in your country card at the door…and never come back. Thanks.”

“Weird flex, but ok.”

“That was a waste of a minute.”

“What the phuck is that ……pass.”

Well, Sturgill heard you folks loud and clear, releasing this promotional video to say a sarcastic “thank you,” along with an implied, “I don’t give a fuck what you think.”

Sound & Fury, both the album and the film, will be released later this fall. Get ready… or don’t. Either way, it’s happening.
