Hawthorne Heights (Yeah, The Emo Band From Middle School) Just Covered Kacey Musgraves’ “Butterflies”

Oh, what a world.

The American punk rock band known as Hawthorne Heights, the very same band that burst on the scene in 2004 with their emo hit “Ohio Is For Lovers,” just released a cover of Kacey Musgraves’ “Butterflies.” And now, all the middle school emo kids that graduated to Kacey Musgraves fandom are losing their minds. Despite what you might think, something about it just works.

According to Billboardit was pretty simple why the band decided to cover Kacey:

“We tweeted at Kacey, just wondering if she had ever listened to us back in the day,” says frontman JT Woodruff. “She tweeted some of our lyrics back to us. We thought it was pretty bad ass that musicians in different genres are still connected. Billie Eilish was a similar scenario. She posted a video of her breakdancing to NikiFM, and thought it was super cool. Both of these are very talented artists, who represent the most current side of pop music.  Both sound nothing like what we are used to writing. We thought it was a great exercise in trying to make their happy pop songs sound like sad Emo songs.”

Naturally, Kacey Musgraves was pretty pumped.
