Chris Young Breaks Down Performing New Song “Drowning” For The First Time

Emotions were heavy at the Grand Ole Opry the other night.

When Chris Young stepped into that iconic circle to debut the heartbreaking “Drowning” for the first time, he was clearly shaken by the weight of such a powerful song.

“Last week, I debuted my new tune “Drowning” at the Opry and broke down…since then so many people have shared stories of loved ones lost and how they have connected to this song. I want you guys to have this one, and make it your own, so I’m going to release it this Friday.”

The song was written for a close friend of Chris’ that passed away, however the same day as the performance, news of Granger Smith’s son River passing away hit the country music community. It’s not hard for anyone to see why it would be pretty difficult for Chris to get through such a powerful song like this. The pain of losing somebody close to you is an unfortunate feeling that just about anybody can relate to.

“Drowning” will officially be released on June 14th.
