Looks like they’ll be taking that “Old Town Road” all the way to Boston for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals tonight.
Because of course they are…
Lil Nas X is scheduled to perform the hit song (and his only song) before the game kicks off tonight and Chase Rice will also be headlining the pregame party at Boston’s City Hall Plaza.
“The place is going to go berserk, I’m pretty sure,” NHL chief content officer and executive vice president Steve Mayer said. “Everybody knows the song. The song is played in all our arenas, and the reaction to the song has been just incredible.”
We’ve seen the NHL make a push towards including more country acts in the major events recently so naturally, they would choose to go with Lil Nas X. Chase, who is a big hockey guy himself, also performed during All-Star weekend last year in Tampa, however for Lil Nas X, this will be his first hockey game.
“Just to have him in the building for a Stanley Cup Final, I think he’ll fall in love,” Mayer told AP News. “If you’re going to see your first hockey game, that’s a pretty good game to go to.”
The event, which will not require a ticket, will open at 4:30 p.m. ET, followed by live musical performances starting at 6 p.m. ET. Fans are encouraged to stay to view Game 1 of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final between the Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues on giant television screens starting at 8 p.m. ET.
