“This Is Freedom. This Is Eagles!” Says Texas Lawmaker After Voting To Sell Beer On Sunday Mornings

“THIS IS FREEDOM. THIS IS EAGLES!”

This quote might go down as one of the greatest American political quotes of all time. Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt, and now, you can add Terry Canales, D-Edinburg, to the list

What prompted such a glorious response? The Texas House voted on a measure to start selling beer and wine at 10am on Sunday mornings. Currently, you can’t buy beer and wine on Sundays until noon in the state of Texas.

“We allow country clubs to sell mimosas at 10 a.m.,”said Rep. Drew Springer said during the debate on the House floor. He also said his proposal won’t affect liquor stores, which are not open at all on Sundays.

It passed in a 99-40 vote. It was then that Rep. Terry Canales, D-Edinburg, hit us with “this is freedom. This is eagles!”

God bless this American hero from Edinburg, Texas, channeling his inner William Wallace, screaming “FREEDOM” on the House floor and actually getting shit done in the government. Ironically enough, Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, you know, where Braveheart takes place.

I’d call that destiny.
